'The Spook Who Sat By The Door' Book Launch
Project Type
Creative Direction
Date
October 2025
I curated the book launch for The Spook Who Sat by the Door in collaboration with Jacaranda Books, crafting a multi-sensory experience that blended literature, music, and culture. Knowing the book’s revolutionary significance, I wanted to create an event that honored its legacy while engaging audiences in a dynamic and interactive way. From the venue selection to the programming, every element was intentionally curated to evoke the spirit of resistance and Black radical thought that the novel embodies.
The event featured a live conversation with publishing pioneer Margaret Busby, whose insights on the book’s historical and cultural impact enriched the evening with depth and context. To further immerse guests in the themes of the novel, The Floor Magazine designed a custom zine filled with essays, artwork, and reflections inspired by The Spook Who Sat by the Door. The atmosphere was brought to life with a curated selection of music that complemented the book’s themes, fostering a sense of communal energy. Food and refreshments were carefully chosen to enhance the experience, making the launch more than just a literary event—it became a space for cultural exchange, dialogue, and celebration.
